4
Zone Controller

Simplified Wiring
The 4 Zone Valve Controller dramatically simplifies
your heating system’s zone valve wiring. A single
controller provides thermostat circuits for four heating
zones, and you can easily add extra controllers parallel-wired
for additional valves. You don’t need zone valves
with END switches, because the END switch outputs are
built into the controller itself. The 4 Zone Valve Controller
also provides two additional outputs – one dry
contact, normally used to activate the boiler, and a
24 VAC output that can drive any 24 volt AC activated
relay, such as the MacDuffco 24 VAC Relay, the MDR 2400.
This means you can intelligently activate system pumps
or mixing valves when any thermostat circuit is calling
for heat, as when your heating system comprises both
low temperature and high temperature circuits.

Simple Mounting
The 4 Zone Valve Controller is designed to mount easily
on a plain blank cover plate with a ½" knockout,
on either a 4" octagon or 4" square electrical
box.
Easy Troubleshooting
The 4 Zone Valve Controller makes troubleshooting heating
system problems simple – by providing indicator
lights to tell you key information at a glance. There
are red lights for all four heating circuits, telling
you which heating zones are currently activated, and
one green indicator light for the entire controller,
telling you there is power to the controller itself.

Thermister Circuits
Are you getting water hammer in your system? Another
innovative feature of the 4 Zone Valve Controller is
the optional thermister circuit provided for each zone
valve. Each thermister circuit can be activated independently
with a simple manual switch for zones where motor-driven
zone valves are closing too fast and causing water hammer.
The circuits supply just enough current to the motor-driven
valves to provide a 15 second braking action –
slowing their closing and eliminating the water hammer.
Remote Transformer
If you want to power the 4 Zone Valve Controller remotely,
or power multiple controllers in parallel with one larger
transformer, you can easily remove the transformer from
inside the controller. Using the holes provided in the
back of the controller’s housing, you simply screw
the controller to a mounting surface in a remote location,
and run low voltage wire to the transformer elsewhere.
